Calgary Rangers Yearly Evaluation Process Overview
The Calgary Rangers evaluation process helps support fair player placement, long-term development, and appropriate team formation throughout the indoor and outdoor soccer seasons. Evaluations take place throughout the year and involve technical staff, Academy Directors, and team coaches. Together, they work to place players at the level that best supports their development.
September Soccer Evaluations and Roster Building
As teams transition into their new age categories for the indoor season, all U10 to U19 players participate in mass evaluations during September.
After players complete their evaluations, technical staff prepare preseason rosters. Team coaches and Academy Directors then meet by age group to review player assessments, discuss roster placement, and build preliminary teams for the indoor season.
These roster meetings take place in late September. Technical staff release preseason rosters in early October.
Indoor Preseason Evaluation Period
The indoor preseason remains an active evaluation period.
Technical staff continue assessing players during training sessions. Additionally, roster movement may occur to ensure appropriate placement. Players who register late or miss September evaluations can complete their assessments during preseason training.
Throughout this period, technical staff monitor player development, team balance, and overall fit within each roster.
In-Season Player Evaluations
Technical staff evaluate players throughout the indoor season.
From December through February, technical staff complete formal in-season evaluations. In addition, technical staff complete at least two evaluations for each team. Furthermore, team coaches complete player assessments and submit feedback on player development and performance.
Team coaches should complete their evaluations by March 1.
Evaluation Alignment Meetings
In early March, Academy Directors and team coaches meet to review and align evaluation results.
These meetings help confirm player progress, discuss development opportunities, and identify any recommended movement ahead of outdoor roster planning.
Outdoor Soccer Evaluations and Roster Building
After outdoor registration closes, technical staff evaluate new players and players who did not participate during the indoor season.
Meanwhile, technical staff assess returning players using information gathered throughout the year, including September evaluations, preseason observations, in-season evaluations, and coach feedback.
Technical staff develop outdoor preseason rosters throughout March. Roster meetings then take place in late March.
Outdoor Preseason Training
Outdoor preseason training begins in April.
Players continue training with their teams while coaches and technical staff monitor development and performance. In addition, roster adjustments may still occur when appropriate.
Final Outdoor Roster Confirmation
Technical staff typically confirm final outdoor rosters by mid-May.
This timeline allows coaches and technical staff to make any necessary adjustments based on preseason performance, late registrations, and overall player placement considerations.
Player Placement Information
Player placement is never guaranteed.
Therefore, Calgary Rangers works to place players based on appropriate roster numbers, age group requirements, and level of play. Technical staff also consider call-up opportunities, player development needs, league regulations, and team balance.
As a result, the club creates development environments that support individual growth while providing more training and game opportunities across the age group.
